First Class is an exciting year where children continue to grow in confidence, independence and responsibility. It marks an important transition from Senior Infants with students settling into a longer school day and adapting to more structured learning while still enjoying a nurturing and supportive environment. We have 23 students this year.
A strong focus is placed on literacy and numeracy. Through varied teaching approaches such as team teaching, students benefit from targeted support in reading, writing, spellings and oral language, helping to meet individual learning needs and encourage progress at each child’s pace.
Children are introduced to the tin-whistle, developing musical skills, rhythm, and a love of music through fun and engaging lessons. Learning is enriched through the use of digital technologies, with pupils taking part in age-appropriate activities that support classroom learning, creativity and collaboration. Overall First Class builds on the foundation laid in the infant classes, encouraging curiosity, confidence and a positive attitude to learning in a happy and inclusive environment.
